Here is her story.....Sofia was very much wanted before she was even born. I remember having dreams about having a little girl, I had the same kind when I was expecting Aidan. I remember when I was expecting Aidan and I had the option to do the test to find out if our unborn baby would be born with Ds but my husband and I both said no. Not because we were scared of knowing but because what would that matter? I wanted to be a mom and if any of our children had an extra chromosome then it was meant to be. I am totally pro-choice and I made a choice not to know. So when Sofia was conceived there was no doubt that it would be the same.
She was a complete surprise for a couple of reasons.... 1. She came 3 weeks early (totally not expecting her so soon). I hear that is common for Ds babies, I guess they just can't wait to make a grand entrance into the world. 2. I was only in labor for about 5 hours. 19 hours less than her brother. 3. She had Ds.....I ran it in my mind as soon as I saw her. I knew and I was OK. Really OK. I always wanted a daughter after I had a son and she was here, and I didn't care about the Ds.
We had a rough 2 weeks after her birth. She was admitted into NICU because of low oxygen intake which about 2 mos. later turned out to be she was aspirating. Then we finally got to go home and we were ecstatic however we came home with baggage, oxygen and a monitor.
We have had some small bumps in the road (ie. feeding tube)
But...... she is a happy little girl, who loves to talk, shop and goof off with mom and her brother.
Glamorous!! Goofy
One Year (where has the time gone?)
